Fall Leaves at Sunset

This photo is of the trees north of Walkerville, close to where the photo was taken yesterday. It's a combination of 5 different exposures so I could capture the sunset and detail in the trees. I also added a blur around the edge.

Acid Lake Abstract

This photo is north of Walkerville, overlooking Acid Lake (the back of one of the pitt's). I moved the camera up while I took the photo to make it look sort of like a painting. Those are the Highlands in the background.

Star Trails on Roosevelt Drive

This photo is a ten-minute long exposure of the sky on Roosevelt Drive. I have a series of about four more photos before this one. I might try to combine all 5 photos to make the star trails longer.

Vogue Cleaners

Vogue Cleaners is on Harrison Avenue north of Glacier Bank. The building is for sale, so I'm assuming the cleaners doesn't exist any more. I used my flash to brighten the sign and add a shadow to the left of the sign.

Silverbow Club Interior

This is the old Silverbow Club next to the courthouse.

Roosevelt Drive Train Trestle

This is the trestle on Roosevelt Drive, off the old road to Whitehall. It's a three minute exposure, so you can see a small amount of a star trail on each star. The light on the road is from my car headlights. I turned them on for about 5 seconds, then turned them off for the remainder of the long exposure.

It was pretty creepy being out there by myself. I was thinking about how that is exactly how scary movies start. But the sky was amazing. The sky was cloudless and I could see the Milky Way.

Brick Details

This is part of an old entry way to a building on Wyoming Street, just north of the new BSW. The way the brick is designed is very interesting, and I wish I would have been around to see the building back when it was kept up and Butte was in all its glory.

Peeling Paint on Rusted Metal

This is a closeup macro shot of peeling paint on a metal door. The door is under an overpass that connects the Whelan Tire Warehouse (across from Steele's) to another building. The metal is peeling back from the wall, and you can see the door had been boarded up from the other side.

Behind the Pekin Noodle Parlor

This is the Pekin Noodle Parlor taken from the alley behind the building.

Also, I'm having issues with the photos I took yesterday, so I probably won't be able to post yesterdays photo until tomorrow.

Original Mine Before Sundown

This is part of the Original Mineyard before the sun went down. The Clouds were great.

Thrown Teddy Bear

I saw this side door to a house on Mercury, and found it strange there was a teddy bear left out to rot near the steps (it's the light blue clump on the bottom left).

Painter on Idaho Street

I pulled up in front of the Business Development Center, where my studio is, and saw John Carle painting a street scene. He was on the corner of Mercury and Idaho Streets. Thanks John, for allowing me to weave around you with my big camera and obnoxious flash in your face while you were trying to concenetrate.

You can contact John at 406.533.0677 if you wish.

Yellow Lock

This yellow lock is on a strange door on the back of the Mai Wah Building. The Mai Wah is next to the Silver Dollar Saloon, which is on the corner of Main and Mercury Streets. The door was above the ground by about four feet, and the door itself was only about four feet high by 2.5 feet wide...strange.

O'Rourke Building

This is the O'Rourke Building on Quartz Street, across the street from the Jail and kiddie corner to the Bail Bond. It's pretty run down, but I enjoy the curtains in the windows.

Hinge

This is a hinge in an alley near intersection of Idaho and Broadway Streets.

Old St. James Hospital

This is the back of the old St. James Hospital from the alley parallel to Idaho Street. It was just before sunset.

Spray-Painted Alley Wall

This spray-painted wall is in the alley next to the Motherlode Theatre.

Stairs Below

Those are the stairs in the alley behind the old St. James Healthcare. I really wish I would have had someone else with me, so I could have gotten a different angle on the shoes, or maybe included someones face in the photo.

Anyway, the lighting was pretty good for this photo. The sun was shining through the openings at the top of the stiars, but not below the level I was at. So below the shoes is much darker, flatter light, and at the top the light was bright and contrasty. Also, it was near sunset so the light shining at the top is warm, and the light at the bottom of the stairs is in the shade, so it's cool. I really couldn't have asked for better light.

Montana Tech Construction

This is the construction at Montana Tech, on the west side of the campus. The lights from the stadium are reflecting off the metal at the bottom, making it look more like wood.

Sunset on the Belmont Mine

I took these photos of the Belmont Mine on the sidewalk of Mercury Street. The sun had set, and I used a flash with a green gel to brighten up and add color to the structure.

Cora Substation

This photo of the Cora substation was taken around 8 p.m. just after the sun went down. It's located just west of the Granite Mountain Memorial.

Drawing

This is behind the Grand Hotel on Broadway Street, in the alley south of Broadway Street. The ghost drawing reminds me of the ghosts on Pacman.

Art Walk Showing

If anyone's interested, the Butte Art Walk is Friday. I'll be showing selected photos from ButteDailyPhoto at Hadnagy Studio in Butte starting Friday. The studio is located at 127 W. Park, and there will be refreshments served from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Scrap

This photo was taken near the Granite Mountain Memorial. The building is that funky green cube that, judging by the buzzing nearby, is part of an electricity plant...if you know what it is, let me know. And there are rusty metal scraps laying in the area.

Old St. James Healthcare Sign

This photo in front of the Old St. James Healthcare is on Silver Street. The sign is stooped over and looks like a car or truck ran into it. I used flash and a slow shutter speed to give it a creepy look.

Red Chair

I came across this red chair wrapped with caution tape at 403 1/2 W. Mercury Street. It's a bit strange, and I'm not sure, but I think the house is abandoned.
